FAQs

How do I know what size crane I need?
The three biggest factors in determining how big a crane you need are:

  • The weight of the item being lifted
  • The radius (how far from the crane the item needs lifting)
  • How high the item needs lifting.

We offer a free site inspection to establish what type and size crane you need for your job.

What is the difference between a slewing and non-slewing crane?
Slewing cranes are immobile when lifting or moving a load. They rely on outriggers and stabilisers for support. Non-slewing cranes, also known as pick and carry cranes, lift and move loads while travelling. They are ideal for loads that need precise manoeuvring.
How much does it cost to hire a crane?
The cost to hire a crane depends on the type of crane, the length and complexity of the job, the time of day, location and the weight of the item that needs lifting.
What is a Franna crane?
A Franna crane, (band name also Linmac and Humma cranes) also known as a pick and carry crane, is a non-slewing crane. It can move while carrying or lifting a load for precise installation.
What are the pros and cons of non-slewing cranes?
Non-slewing cranes perform installations in workshops as they can walk through door openings over 5m high and they can move while lifting a load. The drawback is that they can’t reach as high or lift as much as a slewing crane.
What is wet crane hire?
Wet hiring cranes means a licensed operator completes the job. All our crane operators have years of experience and hold the relevant certificates of competence to operate our cranes. We also have qualified riggers and dogmen.
What type of crane is best suited for my project?
When selecting which crane would best suit your job, there’s several factors to consider:

  • The weight of the load that needs lifting
  • The lift height and radius
  • The terrain on location
  • What access there is to the site and address.
Will you provide a lift plan and risk assessment for the job?
Yes we provide lift plans and risk assessments. Lift plans can be provided at $200 each. Allow 1 – 2 days to prepare lift plan.
What safety measures will be in place during the crane operation?
All jobs are assessed before the start of the job. A safe work method statement, tool box talks and job safety analysis assessment are completed before the job.
Can the crane access my site easily?
How easily our cranes can access your site depends on:

  • What access there is to the site
  • How flat the site is and if it is sandy
  • If feeder lines or powerlines are on your site
  • If counterweights are required

We offer free site inspection to determine which crane is required and how we will access your site and carry out your job.

How long will it take to set up and dismantle the crane?
How long it takes to set up and dismantle the crane depends on size crane and if counterweights are required. Allow 2 – 4 hours with all slewing cranes, non-slewing cranes are much quicker.
